It was not all that many decades ago that the group drumming we have come to love here did not previously exist in America. We have borrowed from cultures from around the world, who have drummed for countless generations, to create our own way of expressing ourselves with drums. The people can now bring together their drums as voices in a choir that has no conductor but ones own heart. It can be a spontaneous outpouring of our own spirit. A song may come forth but a single time, never to be heard the same way again. A co-creation of all those present in that group. The next time, around another fire, the songs will be altogether new.
